A mother bear chased a truck down a mountain road, until the driver finally stopped and realized she was trying to save her baby.
The driver first noticed the bear through a small camera mounted on the side of his truck.
She was running directly behind him.
He assumed she had smelled something inside the cargo area, but the bear showed no interest in the doors. She just kept running, struggling to stay beside the moving vehicle.
The driver slowed down and pulled onto the gravel shoulder.
That’s when he heard a frightened cry coming from behind the truck.
A tiny bear cub was sitting on the rear step. One of its paws had become caught in a loose cargo strap, leaving it unable to jump down.
The cub had apparently climbed onto the truck when the driver briefly stopped near the forest. Its mother had been chasing them ever since.
The driver contacted a wildlife officer and waited inside the cab. After help arrived, they carefully freed the cub while keeping the truck between themselves and the anxious mother.
The moment its paw was released, the cub jumped from the step and ran toward the trees.
Its mother rushed forward, touched her nose to the cub’s head, and led it safely back into the forest.
She hadn’t been chasing the truck for food.
She was chasing the one thing she couldn’t leave behind.
